The Peterbilt 281 is a single drive axle tractor unit, produced from 1954 to 1976. Its narrow nose earned it the nickname "Needlenose". It was popular with truckers because of its superior visibility, and the easy engine access provided by its butterfly hood. This "Rusty" 281 featured as the villain in the 1971 movie Duel (which happened to be Steven Spielberg's directorial debut). The six number plates on the front bumper are trophies from victims that have been run off the road by the menacing truck. Diecast metal cab and chassis, and plastic parts. Rotating wheels with rubber tyres (front wheels are non-posable). Approx. 12cm x 4.5cm x 5.5cm (4.75" x 1.75" x 2.25"). Comes in an acrylic display case.
