Grumman F-14A Tomcat, U.S. NAVY, VF-14 Tophatters, 80th Anniversary Edition. Fighter Squadron FOURTEEN has seen continous active service since September 1919, making it the US Navy's oldest active squadron. VF-14 transitioned to the new F-14A Tomcat fighter in January 1974, and remained a highly accomplished, highly decorated, F14 squadron until December 2001. The squadron was then redesignated VFA-14 and transitioned to Super Hornet FA-18E's. Among the Tophatters many awards are two Presidential Citations, the Navy Unit Commendation, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, and 5 battle stars.
